What is scraping or Gua Sha?

Scraping is a form of traditional Chinese medicine therapy where a patient’s skin is scraped using a massage tool with short or long strokes to stimulate the circulation of soft tissue.

Who is suitable for Gua Sha treatment?

Gua sha is a treatment that is suited for most patients aged between 18 -65. Our physician does not recommend cupping for patients who suffer from the following:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure and heart conditions
  • Health conditions that require surgery
  • Severe skin problems

What can Gua Sha treat?

Gua Sha has been shown to be effective in the treatment of headaches, migraines, neck pain and weight loss.

What happens during a Gua Sha treatment?

Depending on the patient’s condition, liquid Chinese medication is sometimes applied onto the areas of concern to stimulate blood circulation before the actual technique is performed.

Are there any side effects to Gua Sha?

Red or purple bruises will appear in the affected area and usually fades off within 2-4 days. There is no actual damage of the skin after a gua sha treatment.

What should I take note of after my Gua Sha treatment?

Patients are recommended to drink plenty of warm water after treatment.
